LAHORE: The Economy of Food Order, 1967, which restricted the number of guests to ceremonies and social functions and also prescribed the number of dishes to be served there has been repealed by the Provincial Government [July 14].

The Order, according to an official announcement, had been imposed with two principal objectives namely to economise consumption of foodgrains and to avoid ostentation on ceremonial and social occasions. In view of the improved food situation in the Province the need for retaining this Order is no longer felt, the announcement added.

It had, therefore, been decided, the announcement said, to repeal the Order with immediate effect. There would henceforth be no restriction either on the number of guests or on the items of menu at any function.

The Government has, however, emphasised the need for eradicating the social evil of lavish expenditure on ceremonial or other functions and expressed the hope that extravagant and wasteful expenditure would be avoided by all sections of the public.

Affluent sections of the society, and Government officials in particular, are expected to give a lead in this direction and set an example of simple living, the announcement concludes.
