LAHORE: A sessions court on Saturday reserved verdict on a petition by former law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan seeking permission to have home food in jail.

Advocate Farhad Ali Shah represented the petition and contended that the health of his client was not good. He said the petitioner before his arrest was consuming food on the advice of his personal doctor.

The counsel said health of the petitioner might deteriorate if he was not provided home cooked food in jail.

An official of the prisons department told the court that the petitioner had been served with food as per his health in the jail. He said the medical condition of the petitioner was good as jail doctors conducted his health examination every day.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Qaiser Nazir Butt reserved verdict which will be announced in days.

The ANF arrested Mr Sanaullah Khan on July 1 in a narcotics case and the next day a judicial magistrate sent him to jail on judicial remand. The force received 15 kg heroin from Mr Khan and lodged a case under section 9 (C) of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, which carries death penalty or life imprisonment or a jail-term that may extend to 14 years along with a fine up to Rs1 million.
