SUKKUR: Pakistan Peo­ples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has called for the superior judiciary to conduct a fair investigation into the controversy of the leaked video of Accounta­bility Court Judge Arshad Malik.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said the issue of the judge’s leaked video was a big question and challenge for the judiciary.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari was accompanied by PPP’s senior leader Syed Khursheed Shah.

He said he had a right to question how it could be possible that some very important cases, including those against former prime minister and former president Asif Ali Zardari, were given to the court of the judge in question.

He said he did not know what the truth behind the video was, but hoped that a fair and transparent investigation would be carried out in the case.

A free and transparent investigation into the matter is essential for impartial and independent state institutions, Bilawal said, adding that the same institutions and judges had failed to deliver justice to former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto in the past.

Earlier talking to reporters during his visit to Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College, Sukkur, he PPP chairman criticised the performance of the Pakis­tan Tehreek-i-Insaf government, saying that price hike in the country had made the life of people miserable.

Answering a question, he stressed the need for the independence of the country’s institutions.

He said he would continue his struggle for the independence of institutions, adding that ridding them of external pressure would benefit the country.

He alleged that the federal government was carrying out economic murder of provinces and usurping the rights of Sindh.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari also reviewed development works.

He said that hospitals in Sindh were being run in accordance with international standards while special care was being given to infrastructure. He said the Sindh government had streng­thened the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).

He said at present there was an essential need of doctors and nurses in the hospitals.

Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Khursheed Shah, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, CM’s Information Adviser Murtaza Wahab and Provincial Minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah were also present.
