Turtle missing back legs gets Lego wheelchair

This turtle has a new set of wheels. Pedro, 15, is able to move around again thanks to vets who fitted him with a special contraption made using Lego.

Pedro’s owner Sandra Traylor, who adopted the turtle when he had three limbs, decided to get help from Louisiana State University’s (LSU) Veterinary Teaching Hospital after the animal recently lost a second leg while in her garden.

LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine communications manager Ginger Guttner told CNN: “There was nothing medically wrong with him. But of course he didn’t have any back legs, so our doctors quickly had to figure out what they were going to do.”

Intern Kelly Rockwell came up with the idea to attach Lego pieces under Pedro using glue and then fix some wheels on. It worked and the pet can now actually run faster than other box turtles because of the special wheelchair.

Bear breaks into home and takes nap in the closet

The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a home just before 6am on a report of a bear trapped inside the residence. Deputies said the bear had opened the door to the home’s mudroom, made its way into the residence and somehow managed to lock the deadbolt from the inside.

The bear trashed a room before falling asleep in a closet, where it was found by the deputies.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks personnel were summoned to tranquilise and relocate the bear.

A woman who loves to run backwards

We can only imagine the potential for sprained ankles and accidentally tripping over, but one runner loves going backwards instead of forwards.

Shantelle Gaston-Hird, 32, even runs backwards while training on the treadmill in the gym. She says she just finds it “so much more fun than running forwards”.

As you might imagine, she gets some funny looks while out on her jogs.

She said: ‘I get catcalled every time I go out for a run, but when you run backwards all they say is ‘you are going the wrong way’ which is so much nicer than a white van man making inappropriate comments! Initially it was a bit of fun, but after researching backwards running I realised that it is a great cross-training exercise, and a great work out for your abs.”

Shantell added: “I now organise the Retro Mile event on the first Saturday of every month so that other people can come and try retro running in a safe environment.”

Wedding ring lost 50 years ago, finally found!

A 94-year-old woman was reunited with her wedding ring after nearly 50 years thanks to a man who overheard her conversation about the gold band.

Florene Bush, a resident at a Leoma nursing home, was talking about her long-lost ring when she was overheard by Wesley White, a metal detector enthusiast who was visiting his mother at the facility.

White spoke to Bush and her son, Frank Bush, and learned the ring had been lost in the 1970s while Bush was gardening near her home.

White and friend Jeff Howell went down to the area where Bush had been gardening and searched for about 90 minutes before they found the ring about five inches below the surface.
