TIMERGARA: A young man was killed while his brother was injured when a police constable opened fire on the vehicle they were travelling in at Khall Bazaar here on Sunday night.

Residents and police said a vehicle hit a constable of Special Police Force on duty in the bazaar and injured him.

The cop tried to stop the vehicle and opened fire when the vehicle did not stop. As a result, Usama, 20, resident of Namsir village, was killed while his brother, Raqibullah was injured in the incident.

The Khall police took the constable, Bacha Hussain, 55, a resident of Rani village, into custody soon after the incident and locked him up.

An FIR under sections 302 and 324 of CrPc was registered against the cop.

Lower Dir district police officer Arif Shahbaz Wazir told Dawn that the case would be properly investigated and the cop would be dealt with as per the law. He said that no one was above the law.

INCREASE IN PENSION SOUGHT: The former police employees have demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to restore their son’s quota in jobs and provide them with Sehat Sahulat Cards.

The demand was made during a meeting held at Talash the other day chaired by divisional chairman of the retired police employees’ body, Noor Zada.

On the occasion, Noor Zada and others said that retired police employees had rendered great sacrifices for maintenance of peace and order in the society, but they were unable to meet both ends meet in their current pensions due to inflation.

They demanded of the government to implement the Peshawar High Court’s decision regarding their group insurance.

They also demanded 100 per cent increase in pension, merger of medical allowance in pension and annual increment. They said they would take to the streets if their demands were not met.
