PM Imran to attend September's Eastern Economic Forum in Russia on Putin's invitation

Foreign Office sources on Saturday revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will join the Eastern Economic Forum meeting in Russia in September on the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the sources, the invitation was extended by President Putin during the recently-held Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting which both leaders had attended.
At the SCO summit, Prime Minister Imran had had an 'informal' talk with President Putin.
The sources further said the prime minister will be President Putin's guest of honour at the forum. It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Modi will also be present at the September conference.
Eastern Economic Forum is an international forum held each year since 2015 in September, in Vladivostok, Russia. The forum seeks to encourage foreign investment in the Russian Far East.
Pakistan and Russia have both been on the same page regarding bringing long-term peace to Afghanistan. In December 2018, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited Russia during a whirlwind four-nation tour.
The two sides "agreed to continue efforts, including through Moscow Format of Consultations, for supporting reconciliation under an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process", the Foreign Office said at the time.
Russain Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in his meeting with Qureshi, "acknowledged" Pakistan's efforts to achieve a political settlement in Afghanistan and offered his country's support to bring stability in the region, according to the statement.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations between Russia and Pakistan and developments in the regional situation, with Qureshi stating that Islamabad "greatly values" its relations with Moscow.

PM Imran Khan and President Alvi are traveling on special luxury jets for all of these conferences. Someone should ask him that before the elections he used to bash the previous leaders for doing the same. But now no rules exist for him?. Similarly Army, Naval and Airforce chiefs have dedicated Fleet of luxury jets to travel around. The elite of this country is not the sincere to this country and that is the real truth.

At post independence era, British influenced, military & civil servants crafted the foreign policy of newly created Pakistan. Due to inbuilt British phobia of communist expansionism which the Pakistani minds inherited reached out to the West.
Now things have completely changed. Pakistan and Russia can be more of a natural allies as compared to the US. Last two decades have experienced inevitable drift. Pakistan must seek alliances all over the world but special status to be given to few.

Imran like everyone else complained that NS and co visited their homes in the UK regularly on taxpayers money not any state or government level visit to either enhance trade or build international relationships.

It is smart on IK's part to make friends with Russia. Pak is in Asia and China and Russia are closer to Asia, so it is smart to be good friends with both. In the past Pak made a big mistake by rebuffing Russia but as they say "it's never too late".
However, I will say at the same time Pak does not want to antagonize US. Pak needs to maintain good relations with all powers and should only care what's in Pak's interest.
I hope IK can fix this historical mistake and bring the two countries closer

What is Pakistan going to invest in russia's far east , when they having been running from pillar to post for money to meet thier dire economic needs. Imran Khan will just go there sip some tea and click some photos with Putin so that Pakistanis will see that and they will exclaim "alhamduillah let's Russia , China and Pakistan " set a new world order like they did during good old days with uncle Sam .

All depends upon your shopping power. If Pakistan will start buying Russia weapons in billions in future, Russia will continue to extend the invitation to all such meetings. Moment you will stop or not buying weapons in future, they will stop extending invitations. Very simple.

65%of Indians defense equipment purchases are from Russia. Indo Russia joint venture produces weapons like nuclear submarine, agni series, S-400, INSC corridor, agshabad agreement etc. India have good forex reserve, it can afford. But Pakistan can't indo Russia relation has many dimensions which Pakistan don't have. Pakistan pm invitation is very little development. Mind my words- Russia can't develop relationship at the cost of india.

Well I welcome that he is at least to abroad and forging diplomatic ties. Not so keen on Putin but the gme of politics is swarmed by Erdogans, Netanyahus, Putins, Kim Jongs so it becomes lonely if you have to boycott out of moral integrity.
