KOHAT: A man was killed and five others, including a child, were injured in an armed clash between rival groups here on Wednesday.

The police said the members of both the group came face to face near a canal on Bannu road and exchanged fire, killing one person identified as Multan Khan on the spot and injuring five others.

The injured from both the sides were identified as Roman, a minor, Wahid Khan, Aurangzeb Khan, Niaz Mohammad and Aramat. The body was shifted to the KDA teaching hospital for autopsy.

LIQUOR, WEAPONS RECOVERED: A bootlegger was held and a huge quantity of liquor and weapons were recovered from his godown in a raid in Behramabad area on Wednesday.

Riaz Mohammad police station SHO Fayyaz Ali said he had been receiving complaints of supply of liquor in the area. He said he investigated the complaints and reached the supplier, Hidayatullah alias Tolay and seized three drums of 25 litres each and six one-litre bottles. A pistol, a 12-bore repeater, and two Kalashnikovs were also recovered from the den. He was sent to prison on the orders of court.

FAKE MONEY SEIZED: The police foiled an attempt of smuggling counterfeit currency notes from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to down country through Indus Highway on Wednesday.

A team headed by SHO Fayyaz Khan was busy in routine checking of vehicles on the highway, when it stopped a passenger coach. They searched a suspicious person named Ishtiaq and recovered from him fake currency worth Rs176,000. The accused admitted to trying to take the currency to Punjab for distributing it in markets. The police also arrested five gamblers in a raid at a house in Tor Chappri area. The stake money of Rs20,000 was also seized.

DRUGS TORCHED: The police burnt 300 kilogrammes of hashish in Hangu on Wednesday to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse.

Civil judge Haider Ali Khan, DPO Ehsanullah and SP investigations Zain Khan supervised the drug burning event. On the occasion, DPO Ehsanullah said it was their national duty to keep an eye on the new generation which was becoming addicted to drugs due to negligence of parents and society.
