KARACHI, July 21: Fine batting by Talib Ali and Shaharyar Zafar guided Zone-V to a respectable first innings score of 267 against Zone-II on the first day of the three-day A.K. Majeed Memorial KCCA Inter-zonal Under-19 Cricket Championship match at the Landhi Gymkhana on Thursday. Talib hit up a solid 80 while Shaharyar an aggressive 73 as the pair added 60 for the fifth wicket after skipper Tariq Murad elected to bat first. But apart from them, only opener Wasim Naeem (44) and Mohammad Zohaib (32 not out) made significant contributions.

Off-spinner Shahmir Khattak was the most successful bowler for Zone-II with figures of three for 79 in 30 overs. Fellow off-spinner Hammad Khan took two for 28 while slow left-armer Athar Hussain chipped in two for 54.

Zone-II ended the day at 30 without loss with Ali Asad batting on 19 and skipper Mohammad Fahim on seven.
