GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has set up four new districts in the region.

The government issued a notification on Monday about creation of the new districts in Gilgit-Baltistan. The number of districts in Gilgit-Baltistan reached 14 after issuance of the notification.

The notification said that on approval of competent authority, the government of Gilgit-Baltistan in exorcise of powers, conferred upon it under Section 5 of Land Revenue Act, 1967, was pleased to notify the four subdivisions as separate districts having same territorial jurisdiction, boundaries as earlier. The new districts include Gupis-Yasin in Gilgit division, Rondu in Baltistan division, Deral and Tangir in Diamer division.

Talking to Dawn, Adviser to Chief Minister on Food Ghulam Mohammad said that issuance of notification regarding creation of four districts was a success of the government. He said that it was a longstanding demand of the people. He said that Gilgit-Baltistan had a large area and people in the newly created districts would face problems to go the districts headquarters for visiting offices.

“Now people will settle their issues in the nearby offices,” said the adviser. He added that government allocated funds in current fiscal budget for the new districts and created posts there.
