HYDERABAD, July 20: Sindh health services director-general Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi has expressed dissatisfaction over performance of the health department regarding the National Immunization Days (NID) programme and routine immunization held under the Extended Programme of Immunization (EPI). He was presiding over a meeting of EDOs of the health department of the province at a hotel here on Tuesday. The meeting was held to review ‘EPI and Flood’ arrangements.

Dr Jatoi reviewed six-month performance reports of the health department of each district regarding routine vaccination and vaccination against polio under the NID programme.

He said 52 immunization rounds had been held but the overall coverage was not above 70 per cent.

He directed the health EDOs to improve the percentage of routine immunization. He warned that action would be taken against those who were found negligent in vaccination duties. He further directed the EDOs to maintain monthly figures of routine immunization against polio.

Responding to problems faced by the EDOs, he asked them to give names of vaccinators not performing their duties and doing other jobs.

He appreciated financial support by the Dadu district government to the NID routine programme. He asked the other EDOs to get help from district governments of their areas as they were supporting a welfare programme.

He directed the EDOs to coordinate with communities to ensure people’s participation in the programme. He also asked them to depute one focal person at each union council to monitor the programme.

About the flood situation in Sindh, he said flood was not comparatively severe in the province but a constant vigilance had to be kept.

He appreciated the performance of the health EDOs in this regard and asked them to work collectively and in coordination with their respective district governments.
