RAWALPINDI, July 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to rooting out extremism and terrorism, saying it was imperative for the socio-economic progress of the country.

At a meeting, the two leaders reviewed the internal security environment with particular reference to the measures being taken against extremism and terrorism.

The president and the prime minister also exchanged views on the political environment, flood situation, forthcoming local body elections and other matters of national importance.

Later, Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammed Khan gave a briefing to them on the international and regional environment.—APP
