ISLAMABAD, July 19: Senators Dr. Murad Ali Shah and Muhammad Enver Baig on Tuesday expressed surprise over the sudden postponement of this Friday’s meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports.

The meeting scheduled to take place at the Parliament House was to discuss hockey affairs but was postponed apparently because of the Senate session on Friday.

“I have just no clue why this meeting has been postponed, I wonder what’s happening,” said Enver who along with Dr Murad and Dr. Kauser Firdous had put in a requisition on Saturday for holding the meeting.

Murad who felt that there was some kind of pressure that had led to the postponement was angry over Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) having ignored a questionnaire they were required to answer.

“They were given the questionnaire at the start of the year but have still not bothered to respond to it. We want authentic answers to all of the questions.

“As regards human smuggling the PHF has confessed that it was an act of an individual,” Murad said. “The crime has nonetheless been committed,” he pointed out.

The human smuggling relates to PHF’s alleged facilitation of persons not associated with the national team, in obtaining visas for European countries.

The chairman of the committee, Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry was not immediately available for comment.
