ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration demolished a number of housing structures in a katchi abadi in Nilor on Saturday as part of an ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

The operation was carried out at the request of special monitoring teams for katchi abadis. The CDA formed teams last month after a number of complaints that people encroach on land during holidays. These teams are to visit various city areas, particularly slums.

According to an official statement, the site office of the Eden Life Housing Society was also sealed during the operation. The CDA had been informed that after the society’s earlier site office was closed, it built another office on its premises to operate its business.

CDA enforcement directorate monitoring teams also visited katchi abadis. An illegal boundary wall was demolished in the katchi abadi near the Railway Line in H-11.

Temporary huts were also partially demolished and their residents were given two days to vacate the site.

Operations were conducted by enforcement teams in G-7/3 katchi abadi, where work to lay a foundation was stopped and immediately demolished.

Surveillance by special teams in katchi abadis will continue during the holidays.
