PMDC vs HEC

Published May 31, 2019

I REFER to the opinion piece ‘HEC — stormy times up ahead’ (May 25).

I fully endorse the useful suggestions made by Pervez Hoodbhoy. The subject of medical journalism pertains to the medical profession, and the quality of journals is already being judged by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s committee of professors.

There is hardly any need to judge the subject by any other organisation which will be an unnecessary duplication of the activity involving a huge burden on the National Exchequer in a financially over-burdened country.

I request the Senate committee of PMDC to ask the Senate, parliament and government to withdraw the subject from the Higher Education Commission’s domain and restrict it to the PMDC only.

Let the HEC concentrate on the dwindling state of education in local universities.
