PESHAWAR: The Torghar district topped the quarterly ranking of the districts in education improvement indicators conducted by the elementary and secondary education department for the month of April.

According to a press statement issued here, Torghar led the ranking with 66.6 per cent marks followed by Battagram with 54.5pc, Bunner 54.1pc, Lower Dir 52.9pc and Mansehra with 52.7pc, respectively.

Overall students’ attendance rate improved to 80pc and number of non-functional schools was reduced from 114 to 73 schools only, according to the statement. There has also been considerable improvement noted in the overall scores of remaining districts.

The E& SE department with the support of DFID announced results of District Performance Scorecard for April. The announcement was made at a meeting held at the directorate of education.

The meeting was chaired by secretary E&SE Arshad Khan and director Dr Hafiz Ibrahim, with district education officers of all the districts, including tribal subdivisions and newly-merged districts in attendance.

Altogether, there has been substantial progress noted in the several key education indicators of all the districts. A considerable improvement in student attendance rate was noted in Buner by 4.5pc, Torghar and Chitral by 3pc and 2.5pc. It was stated that eight-two per cent schools across KP were provided with all the facilities.
