GUJRANWALA: Forty-five pet Australian parrots, home appliances and furniture were burnt in a fire in a house in Faisalabad Colony here on Sunday.

According to District Emergency Officer Syed Abid Kamal, the fire erupted after a short circuit. The owner had 45 pet Australian parrots and all of them were burnt in the fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire. No human was injured in the incident.

ARREST: The district police arrested a murder accused who was underground for the last one-and-a-half years.

City Police Officer Dr Moeen Masood told Dawn that proclaimed offender Irfan, a resident of Wahndo, had killed Gulzaib, a resident of Rata Bajwa Road, over a minor dispute and escaped.

The Wahndo police arrested him from his hideout on Sunday and sent him behind the bars.

In another incident, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested two persons involved in display of arms on social media and recovered two pistols from them.

CIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Imran Abbas Chadhar told the media the social media monitoring team had identified Imtiaz Khokhar and Aftab Ali, residents of Ferozewala, uploading their videos of aerial firing. A team arrested the suspects from their residences, recovered weapons from them and registered a case.

CRACKDOWN: The traffic police started a crackdown on the drivers involved in speeding on Sunday. It has a plan to launch a campaign against the gas cylinders in vehicles from Monday (today).

The city traffic police decided to impose fine on the drivers of vehicles being run on the liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG).

City Traffic Officer Asif Sidique said this campaign was aimed at safeguarding the citizens from tragic accidents because gas cylinders could cause explosions while speeding vehicles were one of the main reasons of the road accidents.
