TAXILA: The health authorities have launched a vigorous anti-dengue campaign in Taxila and Wah.

This was stated by deputy district officer health Dr Sarah Qadeer while briefing newsmen about anti dengue measures adopted in the area by the health department.

She said on the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, heath department has launched an aggressive anti-dengue campaign in the city.

She said the areas where most of the dengue larvae were found in 2018 had been placed in category 1.

Responding to a question, she said dengue larva was found from two commercial places in Wah and 31 houses in Taxila, forcing the health authorities to seal the shops.

Besides, they fumigated 279 houses mainly in Union councils Mohara Shah Wali Shah, Sarai Kala, Gheela Khurd, Jallala in urban areas of Taxila while urban area of Wah including Ismailabad, Nawababad, Saleemnagar and Muneerabad.

He said the health teams mainly comprising women workers launched door to door campaign aimed at educating citizens about importance of sanitation, cleanliness and preventive measures against dengue.

Entomologist Israr Ali while speaking on this occasion said SOP about anti-dengue was being implemented in a letter and spirit and surveillance had been extended in rural and urban areas to control the threat of dengue.

The teams also removed stagnant water and dengue larvae from several breeding sites, he added.

He urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures and remove stagnant water from their homes and roof tops as most of dengue larvae and adult mosquito were found in air coolers water drums and scrap items.
