Rain emergency in KMC

KARACHI: Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Wednesday directed the officers and staff of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to remain alert in view of the forecast of heavy rains and thunderstorm in the city.

The leaves of staff of medical and health services, fire brigade, municipal services had been cancelled and a state of emergency declared in these departments, said a statement.

The mayor said that all machinery and staff should be made alert and prepared for any emergency.

He said that citizens can contact ‘1339’ complaint number in case of any complaints.

He also instructed the municipal services department to depute staff on storm-water drains because these drains had been filled with garbage due to faulty work of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board.
