Over 300 test positive for HIV in Turbat

GWADAR: Over 300 people were confirmed to be HIV positive in Turbat town of Makran division, it emerged on Saturday.

According to a monthly report, 310 people have been tested positive for HIV. Of them, 250 hailed from Kech, 31 from Lasbela, 27 from Gwadar and one each from Awaran and Panjgur.

Turbat District Health Officer Dr Farooq Rind said all the 310 patients had been registered at Kech HIV Treatment Centre.

Till last month, 107 patients were under treatment at the Kech HIV Treatment Centre, according to the report.

They had been infected with HIV due to several reasons, said Dr Rind. “Some got HIV because of sharing needles and other injection equipment to inject drugs and quite a few because of sexual transmission.”

Pakistan is a considered a low-prevalence country for HIV but in recent days news of 282 children and adults (as of May 9) allegedly infected by an HIV positive doctor in Larkana, Sindh, has made the headlines.

On Friday, 56 more suspected cases of HIV were detected in Ratodero, Sindh.

Mr DS hiv have nothing to do with ”shame” its a illnes like diabetes and canser so you should do your study before making such a crapy comment. Every body in the risk zone should test them Selfs and start to take medicin Now days you Can live a normal life with medicins and Also get married and have a normal life

First accept the mistake so that it may be rectified. Everyone knows the main reason for spread of HIV. But in Pakistan everyone is moving around in circles and not accepting the real reason .

@Adnan, That Ignorance is what causing this as epidemic, HIV is not as lite as you define, even in countries like US, go and check all those recent documentaries or even try to visit those whom have it, its a worst nightmare and our government is hiding it due to positive image in the world, where the issue is purely medical related. We need APC on this, take all provincial local and federal governments on same page, start an intimidate campaigning, as mostly cases didn't cause as STD but just from blood fusion from hospitals , clinics, barbershops and beauty parlors, even by tattoo and piercing.

The worrying prospects of HIV hidden in past, resurfacing after Sind in Baluchistan must be a serious concern to our national & provincial health setups. HIV known for its severe damaging effects on human immune system has clear noticeable signs & symptoms including: soaking night sweats, recurring fever, chronic diarrhea, persistent white spots or usual lesion on tongue or in the mouth, persistent unexplained fatigue, weight loss, & skin rashes and lumps. Causes include having sex w/an infected partner, from infected blood transfusion, by sharing contaminated intravenous paraphernalia (needle,syringe) & during pregnancy or through breast feeding of infected women to their babies. The govt. needs to launch a mass awareness program in order to isolate those infected from HIV from spreading the disease, mandatory checking of blood donors, strictly enforce repeated use of needle or syringe on patients. Let us hope govt. will take extreme steps to check this fatal disease from spreading
