KARACHI: One of Pakistan’s most celebrated badminton players, Palwasha Bashir won the women’s doubles title at the 42nd UAE Open Badminton Tournament recently.

Second seeded pair of Palwasha Bashir and Tanisha Crasto overpowered top seeded pair of Jenalyn Dimaculangan and Haritha Harinarayanan by 2-0 with the final scoreline of 21-13, 21-13 to win the women doubles title of 42nd UAE Open Badminton Tournament.

In the women’s singles semifinals, the SAF games bronze medalist from Pakistan, Palwasha thrashed Haritha Harinarayanan of India with the final score being 21-10, 21-12.

Palwasha, who plays for National Bank, later lost to top seed Tanisha Crasto in the final and secured the runner up spot in women’s singles.

A brilliant player, Palwasha came into limelight about ten years ago when she won back-to-back national titles. Later on, she created a name for herself after bringing home a bronze medal from South Asian Federation (SAF) Games in 2010.

Palwasha, who has several trophies to her name,

is now eyeing to be among top 100 in an attempt to qualify for next year’s Olympics and to achieve that she is aiming to play maximum tournaments in 2019.
