ISLAMABAD: After an exciting fight, Wapda’s Sanaullah defeated Army’s Mohammad Azhar 3-2 to move into the semi-finals in the 91kg contest during the National Boxing Champion­ship here at Amir Khan Boxing Gymnasium of the Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday.

On third day of national championship, boxers from Army and Wapda’s boxers dominated with nine boxers from each side moving into the last four in various weight categories.

In another close contest, Abdul Samad from Baloch­istan beat Pakistan Air Force (PAF) boxer Saeed Anwer 3-2 to reach the semis in the 69kg competition.

Results (quarter-finals):

60kg: Ibrahim (Army) bt Mohammad Shoaib (Punjab) 5-0; Sheraz (Navy) bt Naseer Ahmed (Wapda) 5-0.

64kg: Adnan Hasan (PAF) bt Irfan Bashir (Azad Jamu & Kashmir) second round KO; Faraz Abid bt Ghulam Nabi (Gilgit-Baltistan) — walkover; Ali Ahmed (Wapda) bt Abdul Ghani (Balochistan) 5-0; Suleman Baloch (Army) bt Qadir Khan (Navy) 5-0.

69kg: Salar Abid (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) bt Inam Ullah (Gilgit-Baltistan) 5-0; Amir Khan (Wapda) bt Fahad (Punjab) 5-0; Gul Zaib (Army) bt Faraz Ahmed (Sindh) 5-0; Abdul Samad (Balochistan) bt Saeed Anwar Khan (PAF) 3-2.

75kg: Shafiullah (Wapda) bt Abid Ali (Police) — Abid retired; Saif-ul-Manan (Army) bt Ali Nawaz (Punjab) — first round RSC; Tanveer Ahmed (Navy) bt Hasnain Ali (PAF) first round RSC; Ehsan Ulalh (Balochistan) bt Khalil Asghar (Sindh) 5-0.

81kg: Awais (Army) bt Majid (Navy) third round TKO.

91kg: Sanaullah (Wapda) bt Azhar (Army) 3-2; Mahmood-ul-Hassan (PAF) bt Tariq Nawaz (Navy) 5-0.
