LAHORE, July 14: The Executive Committee of the Pakistan Polo Association (PPA) rejected the appeal of brothers Shamyel and Qublai Alam for condoning their misconduct and indiscipline and lifting ban from playing..

Both of them were found guilty of physical assault of Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan on April 9 at Lahore Polo Club during the Presidents Cup Polo tournament.

“It is a decision which is taken purely on merit and keeping in view the bad conduct of the players and we believe no one is above discipline”, said a source in the PPA.

He said the Executive Council had a unanimous view that there should not be any compromise on discipline and steps should be taken to clean the game from those elements who brought bad name to polo. In the appeal both the players had expressed regrets and tendered unconditional apology.

Shamyel and Qublai team “Lahore Chatkhara” and Waqar’s team “Wak Group” were taking part in the tournament and they were locked at points table for reaching the final.

They (Shamyel and Qublai) had a heated discussion with Waqar regarding their team chances for reaching the final.This led to the incident which took place in the presence of two foreign players, Englishmen Chris Hide and Bablo Jauretche, who were also playing in the tournament.—APP
