Drugs in Karak

Published April 19, 2019

KARAK, as compared to the rest of the province, is relatively modern and educated with an abundance of natural resources.

Recently, we have stumbled across a major problem which needs to be addressed by the government as soon as possible before matters get out of hand.

Locals have started to partake of and deal in drugs frequently.

The target is teens. They think of drugs as a recreational activity, not something that is burning their brain cells.

Drug misuse can be harmful to health in both short term and long term, and could possibly lead to addiction.

For example, something like cocaine can likely lead to death from an overdose as it can overstimulate the heart and the nervous system and lead to a hearth attack.

Taking cocaine is particularly risky if you have high blood pressure or already have a heart condition. If you’re pregnant, cocaine can harm your baby and even cause miscarriage. If you’ve had previous mental health problems, it can increase the chance of a relapse.

If you snort cocaine, it can damage the cartilage of your nose over time. If you inject it, you are at higher risk of dying as a result of an overdose, and your veins and body tissues can be seriously damaged.

According to the National Health Service, you put yourself at risk of catching HIV or hepatitis if you share needles.

The police, despite good efforts, have failed to curb the problem.

Those in power are not doing anything about this and this confuses me because aren’t they supposed to help the youth rather than let them waste their lives?

The government should tackle the problem before we turn into Colombia or worse.
