QUETTA: Eleven members of a family lost their lives on Tuesday when a wagon they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck in the Mastung area on the Quetta-Karachi highway.

The victims were going to Qila Abdullah from Karachi to condole the death of a relative there.

Police said about 20 people left Karachi in the morning and when they reached the Ganji Doori area of Mastung their vehicle collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. As a result, eight people died on the spot, while 12 others suffered injuries.

The dead and injured were taken to Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital in Mastung where three people died.

Officials said that all the deceased were Afghan nationals.

Mastung Assistant Commissioner Muddassar Kantian said the deceased included seven men, two women and two children. He said the wagon driver could not control his vehicle because the road had become slippery and rammed it into the truck.

Soon after the accident, police and Frontier Corps personnel, along with rescue workers, reached the site and took the injured to the civil hospital in Quetta.

The wagon was completely destroyed in the collision.

After completion of medical-legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families which took them to Karachi for burial.
