
RAWALPINDI: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Pakistan Rawalpindi Chapter (APRC), organised a seminar and inter-university skits competition on Tuesday.
The theme of the competition was Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
The focal person of the event, Dr Iram Gul, said the seminar would go a long way in raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and its effect on the quality of life of the caregivers of patients.
FJWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir highlighted the role of the university towards the cause by motivating the students to engage in several community initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Minister for Literacy and Non-formal Education Raja Rashid Hafeez said there was a need to raise the awareness among people about the disease so better healthcare facilities could be provided to the patients.
Prof Dr Mubashar Malik and retired Brig Dr Muwadat Hussain Rana, professors of psychiatry, talked about the disease and the need to address the stigma associated with the disease.
They encouraged the students to volunteer their services in raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.
Multiple universities across Rawalpindi participated in this event.
Registrar, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Prof Samina Bukhari, in her closing address, thanked the participants who took part in the inter-university skits competition and reiterated that such events should be held in future to persistently raise awareness about theme of the event.
