MUZAFFARGARH: A district police team claimed on Saturday to have smashed a gang of weapon smugglers and recovered a cache of arms from them.

District Police Officer Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin said he got information about weapon smuggling in Rohallanawali area about 25 kilometres away from the city.

He said he formed a team headed by the SHO to arrest the suspects and when it chased down the gangsters, they opened fire on police.

Police, the DPO said, retaliated and the ensuing exchange of firing resulted in injuries to a suspect and arrest of two others Aziz and Yousaf.

A case was registered against them under sections 353, 324, 186/34 of PPC on Sunday, said the DPO who added that police had been working on tracking down the gangsters for quite some time and finally achieved their objective.

Meanwhile, a team of the Civil Lines police raided a house and recovered more than 100 bottles of liquor. Police launched a crackdown after the incident.
