KARACHI: A superb all-round show by Musavir Ahmed enabled Union Sports qualify for the quarter-final round of the Rising Star Invitation Trophy cricket tournament with a comprehensive 108-run win against Recreation CC at the Meraj Millat Ground here on Saturday.

Batting first, Union Sports collected 280-7 in 40 overs with Musavir scoring 79 (11 fours and one six) and Kamran Ali 68 (eight boundaries).

Recreation CC, in reply, were bowled out for 172 in the 26th over despite Abubakar contributing a defiant 77 that included nine fours and one six.

After his heroics with the bat Musavir, who was named man-of-the-match, grabbed five wickets for 32 runs with his slow left-armers.

Meanwhile, the match between tournament hosts Rising Star CC and Malir Sports was abandoned after a few unknown persons barged in the Bright Cricket Ground which left the organisers calling off the game when Malir Sports had reached 32-1 after 8.3 overs.

However, this fixture will be replayed at a late date, the organisers announced.

Summarised scores:

UNION SPORTS 280-7 in 40 overs (Musavir Ahmed 79, Kamran Ali 68, Salman Fareed 33, Saad Abbasi 30; Munim Ahmed 2-48); RECREATION CC 172 in 25.3 overs (Abubakar 77, Munim Ishaq 31; Musavir Ahmed 5-32, Saad Abbasi 2-22).
