ISLAMABAD, Jan 12: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has issued directives that schemes under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP) be undertaken speedily as these would benefit the people besides generating economic activity in the country.

The president specifically asked the administration to take care that funds under this programme were utilized in a judicious and prudent manner to ensure transparency.

He said projects under the KPP should be identified by elected representatives and thoroughly considered by Zila Mushawarat Committee before a final approval.

Gen Musharraf further directed that while selecting programmes priority should be accorded to schemes which directly benefit the people like water supply, sanitation, drainage and municipal services. Operationalization of incomplete electrification schemes should also be included in this programme.

A fair amount of funds should be allocated for deriving maximum benefit from these schemes which will involve active participation of town and taluka Nazims. The funds, he said, should not be spent for purchase of cars, air-conditioners, etc. However, the provincial governor could include any developmental scheme under KPP-III.

Besides priority to education schemes, the KPP-III could include lining of water courses, development and levelling of playgrounds in every major village and town to provide sports facilities to the young generation, it said.—APP
