LAHORE: In yet another incident of violence against women, the police arrested a man for allegedly torturing his wife for not bringing money from her parents.

The North cantonment police made the arrest on the complaint of the victim in a raid on a house in Askari 10 area. Video clips of the tortured woman, Hajra Bibi, showed her face bleeding massively.

In an earlier incident, a man had been arrested for shaving off head of his wife in Defence area a couple of days back.

Hajra Bibi in her complaint alleged that her husband Umair Noorani and his brother Haris tied her hands and lashed her with rubber belts and rods.

She said the suspects beat her up inhumanly, damaging her nose tissues and causing massive bleeding. She said that as a result of brutal torture, she also suffered multiple wounds on her back and fainted because of unbearable pain.

Talking about the reasons, she said her greedy in-laws had been demanding money from her parents.

She said her parents had already given her in-laws a heavy dowry, including gold ornaments and costly furniture worth over Rs3 million at the time of her marriage some 10 years back. After lodging an FIR on the basis of her statement under sections 354 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the police raided the house and arrested Noorani.

The other suspect, nominated in the case, managed to escape from the house.
