PESHAWAR: Campus police have lodged a case against an official of the University of Peshawar’s administration for torturing children, which was caught on video.

Earlier on Thursday, a video was shared on the social media and WhatsApp groups showing a university official beating and kicking two children. Police identified the official as Gohar Rehman, deputy director administration at the varsity.

An official of the campus police station told Dawn that they had registered an FIR under section 34, 37 and 44 of the Child Protection Act 2010 against the official and were trying to arrest him.

Separately, a 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide over a minor rebuke from her father in Bhanamari area of the city.

A police official said that the teenager shot herself dead with 30-bore pistol after her father stopped her from using mobile and asked to focus on her studies. He said that she was a student of class-VI.

The official said that police had sent her body for postmortem and recovered the pistol used in the incident.
