Green belts

Published March 18, 2019

DURING a recent visit abroad I noticed that the upkeep of green belts on the medians on main roads and the roundabouts was being managed by multinational companies and other large corporations. All of these medians and roundabouts were beautiful and the landscaping was worth seeing.

I suggest that our civic bodies should also work on the same pattern. In the large cities and even small towns of Pakistan, let us lease green belts and roundabouts to reputed companies. The only stipulation should be that the companies will produce aesthetic green belts. In return they can — tastefully — advertise their name and product at these spots.

The civic bodies can generate handsome revenue from this practice, which will at least take care of their horticulture expenses.
