ISLAMABAD, July 7: The renovation and extension of the Liaquat Bagh Squash Complex, rendered useless by floods in 2001, is to be completed in 11 months, officials said on Thursday.

The Senior Vice President of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Air Marshal Raashid Kalim, who performed the earth-breaking ceremony said that the total cost of the project will be Rs 8 million.

The contract covers renovation of five existing courts at the complex with a new championship court having a seating capacity for 200 spectators, to be added.

The ownership of the land will be with the district government while the administrative control of the complex will be exercised by the PSF.

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Zonal Squash Association will be responsible for its day-to-day functioning.

The Prime Minister has approved Rs 10 million for the project and the PSF has already imported equipment worth Rs 5 million for the courts.
