QUETTA: Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of dacoits in Quetta who had been allegedly looting houses disguising themselves as policemen and Frontier Corps officers, said a senior police officer.

“The gang had been robbing houses in the Kuchlak area in Quetta city wearing police and FC uniforms,” said Abdul Razzaq Cheema, Deputy Inspector General of Police Quetta, at a press conference.

“The gang comprises 11 people of which six had been arrested and efforts are under way to nab the remaining,” he said.

The modus operandi of the gang, according to the DIG, entailed posing as policemen and FC men and appearing at the targeted house whose owners and residents would open their doors promptly and the gang would swoop in to loot household items, ornaments and other valuables.

An ambulance was used to carry arms and uniforms for the gang members who after robbing would transfer all the looted valuables into the vehicle along with their uniforms and ammunition and flee from the area.
