Transporters for raise in fares

Published July 8, 2005

LAHORE, July 7: The Pakistan Motor Transport Federation has demanded an increase in bus and wagon fares in view of the recent raise in diesel prices. Federation vice-president Naseer Ahmad said in a statement that transport fares in Punjab were five paisas per kilometre lesser than Sindh. He said transporters were finding it difficult to continue operations as the diesel price had increased by Rs4.58 per litre since the last fare revision.

Increase in the bus stand fee by the City District Government and spare parts’ prices were an additional burden, he said.

He said the government should increase the fares in accordance with the increase in operation costs before the transporters were forced to suspend operation.
