HYDERABAD, July 6: The All-Sindh Private Bus Transport Progressive Labour Union has threatened to launch a protest movement if authorities concerned failed to take notice of what they called highhandedness of the contractor who is overcharging parking fee from bus-owners. Speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Wednesday, union president Majid Khan, chairman Asif Khan and general secretary Faisal Qureshi said the buses on their way to Karachi stopped at the Qasim chowk for a few minutes for which the contractor was supposed to charge Rs100 per vehicle according to the agreement between the Hyderabad cantonment board and the contractor.

The contractor however, they said was charging Rs600 to Rs700 per coach and sometimes even Rs1,000 as parking fees.

They said it was a flagrant violation of the parking fees schedule and such violations more often than not led to scuffles between the contractor’s hoodlums and the bus staff.

They said if authorities concerned failed to take notice of the highhandedness of the contractor it could lead to bloodshed.

They said even the Sindh High Court had given a judgement in the parking fees case on June 23, directing that only Rs100 per vehicle as per the cantonment board schedule should be charged.

They demanded that senior army officers and cantonment board should ensure implementation of the fee schedule failing which bus-owners and employees would resort to protest.
