QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has said that people still face the lack of basic facilities in the province because the past governments only worked for political gains.

Speaking at a pre-budget consultation workshop here on Monday, he said various areas were facing lack of schools, roads, hospitals and other basic facilities.

“People could not be satisfied with such a wrong planning and development in the province,” he said.

The workshop was organised by Governors Policy Project, a project of World Bank for Capacity Building of Planning and Development and Finance Department.

The chief minister said the political governments took decisions, but they should be the reflection of people’s desires.

Jam Kamal said that the understanding about Balochistan was necessary before determining the real requirements and needs of the province. “Unfortunately, the policy-makers, including bureaucrats, politicians, have not visited 70 per cent of the area of Balochistan and did nothing for improvement of the system according to the needs of the people,” he said.

“The situation could be improved by devising a planning mechanism,” he said, adding that if the situation was not improved in the next three to four years, future generations would face problems.

“We have to separate politics and governance for the development of Balochistan,” Jam Kamal said. “We take services of engineers and doctors for getting better results, but unfortunately when we come to power, we never have such a thinking for development and resolving the issues of the province,” he added.
