The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday announced the postings of 28 judges for tribal districts, the region formerly known as Fata (Federally Administered Tribal Areas).

The postings are the first of their kind for the tribal districts, which came into existence following Fata's "historic" merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last May.

"Peshawar High Court has posted Judicial Officers to the newly merged districts of Khyber, Mohmand, Bajawar, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan," the court stated in a press release.

Among the 28 postings, seven are district and sessions judges, 14 are additional district and sessions judges, whereas seven others are senior civil judges.

"In the first leg, for each newly merged district, one district and sessions judge, two additional district and sessions judge and one senior civil judge have been posted. In due course, civil judges cum judicial magistrates shall be transferred," the press release said.

The judges will operate out of settled districts for now, until new judicial complexes are constructed in tribal districts.

"This makeshift arrangement shall be for a maximum period of five to six months, and hopefully there would be a swift transition to the newly merged districts," the press release added.
