HARIPUR: A one-day tent pegging contest was held here on Wednesday.

Former union council chairman Mohammad Iqbal organised the contest in which players from different areas of Punjab, Haripur, Abbottabad and Mansehra participated.

The horse riders, who were neatly dressed, exhibited their skills enthralling the audience.

In the single competition, Haidri Nezabaz Club bagged first and second positions and Saddat Nezabaz Club Mankraey third, while in the section competitions, the Royal Hazara Club clinched first position, Haidri Club second and Bari Imam Club third.

Member of the district council Sahibzada Attaur Rehman, Syed Taimoor Haider Shah, Syed Ghayur Shah, Prince Malik Atta and Haji Abrar of Hatta distributed prizes to winners.

LOOTED: Two houses and a shop were burgled here on Wednesday.

Afsar Khan of Mohallah Baboo said burglars took away 18 tolas gold ornaments, Rs450,000 cash and licensed pistol when he and his family members were not home.

Resident Asif complained that burglars took away his ATM card, cash, valuables and important documents. Atiqur Rehman said unidentified people looted cash, cigarettes, mobile phone cards and other goods from his departmental store at night.

HELD: Two butchers were held here for selling unhygienic beef.

The police said Imran and Mohammad Sajjad of Serae Saleh Bazaar were held on the complaint of assistant food controller Shaukat Sultan. They said the beef sold by those butchers caused food poisoning to over two dozen people.
