ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is being run without a permanent director general for around two years.

In November last year, the government had appointed Dr Ali Ahmad Kharal, the senior most principal, as acting DG for a period of three months, which expired on Tuesday.

Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood told mediamen at a report launching ceremony on Tuesday that Mr Kharal would continue working as DG until a permanent head was appointed.

The post of DG fell vacant in December 2016 after the retirement of Dr Shahnaz Riaz, and since then no serious effort was made to fill this important position.
