Five killed in tribal clash

QUETTA, July 4: At least five tribesmen were killed and two others injured in clashes between groups of Shahlyani and Mengal tribes near Usta Mohammad on Monday. Sources said the clashes started when one Abdul Nabi Mengal killed a land owner, Mir Manthar Khan Shahlyani, and his own bother who worked on Shahlyani’s farm in Goth Chota Khan Jamali on Sunday night. After the killing, Mir Manthar’s younger brother and armed men of his tribe attacked Chakar Khan Mengal village. Tribesmen from both sides took positions and exchanged fire.

Minthar Shahlyani, Liaquat Ali Mengal, Sikandar Ali Mengal, Ghulam Nabi Mengal and Meharullah Mengal were killed and two people were injured in the clashes, which continued for several hours.

Police cordoned off the area and forced the tribesmen to cease fire.

The bodies of the deceased and the injured people were taken to the Usta Mohammad Hospital.

Balochistan reserve police have been deployed in the area to avert further clashes between the tribes.
