ISLAMABAD: Contestants from 15 countries will feature in the Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships starting here at the Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday.

Players from the US, Hong Kong, Turkey, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, Korea, Germany, Kazakhstan, France, Russia, Philippines, Malaysia besides hosts Pakistan have confirmed their participation, according to tournament director Mohammad Khalil Chughtai

The 16-year-old player Huzaifa Abdul Rehman will be Pakistan’s main hope at the championship.

Players will compete in boys 18 and under singles, boys 18 and under doubles, girls 18 and under singles and girls 18 and under doubles categories.

The qualifying round will be staged on Saturday and Sunday while the main round comprising 32 players commence from Monday. The finals will be played on Feb 23.

A meeting of the event organising committee was held under the chairmanship of former Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas, Patron of the Pakistan Tennis Federation.

The meeting was attended by Khalil Chughtai, ITF supervisor Mohammad Arif Qureshi and event organiser Ahsan Raza Zaidi.
