HYDERABAD: The Sindh chief minister has with immediate effect appointed Professor Dr Nasiruddin Shaikh as the acting vice chancellor of the Government College University (GCU), Kali Mori, till the appointment of a regular VC.

According to Government College Alumni Association president Abdul Rehman Rajput, a notification dated Feb 13 has been issued in this regard.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while attending the centennial celebrations of the Govt College, Kali Mori, on Oct 9, 2017, had announced upgrading of the college to status of university.

According to initial planning done by the government, some faculties would be set up along with the GCU’s administration block whereas other departments would be set up at a new location in Gulistan-i-Sarmast zone of the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) off Tando Moham­mad Khan road.

The century-old college has produced many a luminary.

Prof Shaikh said that Dr Aqeel Hyder had been made focal person to coordinate with the revenue department for pursuing entry in the revenue record regarding 100-acre piece of land supposed to be allotted for the college. “We are requesting the administration to hand over physical possession of 100 acres of land after due measurement,” he said.
