Govt set to establish science and technology park in Islamabad

Ministry of Science and Technology is set to establish a science and technology park in the federal capital, APP reported on Monday.
The park aims at to provide modern facilities to the students for scientific research.
The park would be established in the federal capital in collaboration with COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), said an official while talking to APP.
The government allocated Rs50 million for the project, the official said. He said that the feasibility report of the project has been prepared by a renowned company.
When contacted Rector COMSATS University, Dr Raheel Qamar, said that the purpose of the science and technology park is to promote scientific education among the students.
He said the establishment of the science and technology park would help to promote science and technology related education. It would also help to increase entrepreneurship across the country, he added.
He said that it would also provide up to date facilities of scientific learning to the students under one roof.
The rector COMSATS further said that the project would be started soon as its feasibility report has been prepared.

I think it would be better if they started investing in other fields too like Stem cell research or Biotechnologies...

Government should seriously consider to either scrap completely or change the Scope of Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) . This organisation has become a white elephant and burden on exchequer. Its current work does not reflect the charter which it was established few decades ago. founded by eminent scientist and scholar Saleem Zaman Siddique.(19 October 1897 – 14 April 1994)

Wonderful. With all the positive steps taken, there are great hopes for all Pakistanis. I am happy to read about this Science & Technology park. It shows that decision makers are focused on progress of Pakistan. Pakistani people are smart and talented, this positive step would motivate scientific community, specially the young generation to participate in development for technology that can result in development of products and processes with application in commercial fields to generate revenue, reduce dependence on foreign imports, increase exports and most of all provide incentive to young generation to excel in scientific field. Long Live Pakistan.

How many new Engineering/Medical Universities; Research, Development and Design institutions/Organisations/facilities and Technology Parks been set up for the 30 million people of Karachi in the last 30 years by the Federal Government. Why is everything being setup in 100 kilometer radius of Islamabad and shifted from rest of Pakistan to Islamabad. Who will establish these institutions in Sindh and Baluchistan.

@Hasnain Haque, This vision was planned discussed by previous Govt. Its just change of nameplate. Lets see when implementation starts. Changing name on books does not make any sense.

Commendable initiative but I do not understand how a science and technology park can be established with PKR Rs 50 million. This comes to less than half-a-million dollars. One cannot buy even one significant piece of research equipment for this kind of money, not to say build any kind of research infrastructure. This must be a joke. Goes to show how little understanding of the cost of science/technology research the Pakistani nation has now.

What this technology park is needed for in Islamabad where there are more than six universities located within a radius of 15km???
Feasibility study is like a joke in Pakistan where it follows the actual decision.

Do something regarding Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering...Brilliant scientists of this field are sitting idle with no jobs at all...this field is pulled only to universities to fill up the pockets while beyond that there are no research sectors at applied scale.
