KHAIRPUR, July 3: Former District Nazim Nafisa Shah has termed the participation of MNAs and MPAs in partyless local body elections as complicated and illogical. “The legislators are imbued with party politics and how can they take part in local body elections being held on non-party basis” she said.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, she said during the last four years, the district council could hold only a few sessions because of the interference of the government in its affairs.

She said fake cases were registered against ADP nazims and three political workers were killed during by-elections when two partisan DPOs were appointed in the district.

She appealed to the HRCP and other human right groups and democratic organizations to conduct an inquiry into brutalities committed by the two DPOs.

She said cases were registered against her and some of the members of the district council.

She said being a woman, she was not accepted as the district nazim in the feudal system.

She said the Sindh government had handed over the district to a political party under a “political quota” and the officers were deputed through sources of that political party.

She said DPO Khaliq Shaikh who had restored peace in the district and killed a bandit, Dino Shaikh, had been transferred within a week time.

She claimed a majority of council members and the people of the district were in her favour.

She said some of the nazims deserted the ADP due to political pressure and victimization through police.

She said most of water-theft cases were registered against ADP councillors, nazims and PPP workers.
