SHEIKHUPURA, July 2: Two girls were killed while their mother sustained injuries when the roof of their house caved in during heavy rain here on Saturday in Shah Colony. Reports said the roof of labourer Ahmad Ali’s shabby house collapsed as a result of which his two daughters Najma (18) and Salma (21) were killed while his wife Safia Bibi sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. B-division police are investigating.

FAISALABAD: Intermittent rains during the last couple of days have exposed the performance of developmental agencies as almost every city road was submerged by rainwater.

The emergency centres set up by Wasa and special help centres established by the TMA have also proved ineffective.

The Wasa officials have miserably failed to rectify the sewerage and drain out rain water from Ghulam Muhammadabad, Jinnah Colony, Madina Town, People’s Colony, Allama Iqbal Colony, Mansoorabad, Abdullahpur, Gulistan Colony and some other low-lying areas.

SIALKOT: Almost all low-lying areas of the city, including the district jail, courts, railway station and Jinnah Stadium were submerged by rain water here on Saturday, paralyzing civic and trade activities. The sewerage and rain water flooded the entire main and link roads in the city, exposing the TMA’s performance.

The Sialkot MET office has forecast more heavy rains in Sialkot and Narowal districts and in catchment areas of the neighbouring occupied Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
