KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has vowed foolproof security for cricket events in Karachi including the matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) slated to be held in March.

In a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) security consultant Col Asif on Thursday, Murad informed that the police and the Rangers had already made a comprehensive security plan which would involve police, special branch, special security unit, rangers, commando battalion of army.

Helicopters would also be available for aerial cover while all routes, such as stadium, hotels would be searched through bomb disposal squads with medical facilities to be provided at airport, stadium and hotels.

The chief minister expressed his delight that international cricket had returned to the city and promised to work on “further promoting it”.

Last year, the PSL final was played in Karachi for the first time since the glitzy Twenty20 league began in 2016.

During the meeting Col Asif also informed the chief minister that the West Indies women’s team was coming to Karachi on January 30 to play a few matches to which Murad said that had already held a number of meetings to provide necessary security to international teams.

Earlier, Home Secretary Kazi Kabir chaired a meeting of Security Coordination Committee to review arrangements for tour of the West Indies women’s team and the PSL.
