Dam fund

Published January 24, 2019

AS an overseas Pakistani, I donated $1,000 in response to the appeals by Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar. I also promised to donate a further amount of upto several million dollars as soon as my assets were available.

If the dam fund is being abolished, the only honourable way to end it is to return the donations. There are serious questions on how the project is being handled. As my amount was paid by a US cheque encashed by the National Bank of Pakistan it is traceable. At some later stage and when the project gets going, I will give a larger amount.

At the same time I feel a donor’s committee be allowed a say in auditing and wish myself or my nominee civil engineer to be its member.

This should not be allowed to become one more national scam.
