LARKANA, June 30: A shutter-down strike was observed in Naudero on Thursday in protest against Sindh government’s decision to include four dehs of the Ratodero taluka in the Shikarpur district’s Garhi Yasin taluka. The dehs are Nazr Detho, Panjo Kinaro, Salar Janvri and Shadi Abro.

A large number of people, led by Ratodero People’s Party Parliamentarians president Ghulam Mustafa Agha and Ghulam Haider Narejo, staged a rally and blocked the Larkana-Sukkur road.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the “struggle committee” criticized the government for the decision and said it would multiply people’s problems.

They maintained that the government was out to divide Benazir Bhutto’s constituency because it suited the rulers’ interests and added that the decision was also aimed at rigging the coming local bodies’ polls.

They announced to continue the protest till the decision was withdrawn. They demanded that Naudero should be given the status of a taluka.

Meanwhile, people continued their protest in Badah town for the ninth day against making Bakrani a taluka.

Leaders of different political and social organizations held a meeting at the office of the union council-I and criticized the Sindh government for not making Badah, having a population of around 100,000, a taluka. They regretted that Bakrani which had a population of 16,000 had been made a taluka.

A group of 50 people also observed a token hunger strike.

In Shahdadkot, people took out a procession and held a demonstration at the Kotoo Motoo Chowk under the banner of the district forum.

They were protesting against the decision to change the name of the district from Shahdadkot to Qambar-Shahdadkot.

They also observed a token hunger strike.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Atta Mohammad Siddiqui, Niaz Chandio and Mansoor Jarwar demanded that the government should make Shahdadkot a new district, comprising Qubo Saeed Khan and Sujawal talukas.

Endorsing the demand of the district forum, people in Qubo Saeed Khan observed a hunger strike and took out a procession.

The PPP also took out a procession against inclusion of certain union councils of the Larkana taluka in the new Bakrani taluka.
