LAHORE: Goods transport operators withdrew on Saturday their strike call after the city administration, traffic police and other departments accepted their demands.

Truckers under the banner of the Pakistan Goods Transporters’ Association, announced on Friday that they would close entry and exit points of the city in protest at the non-acceptance of their demands. On Saturday morning, the administration held dialogues with them at the office of the deputy commissioner.

“During discussion, we presented a charter of demand to the administration, which they accepted,” said Lala Yassir Naseer, a goods transport owner.

The demands, which were accepted, included stopping police from imposing fines on truckers, stopping customs and excise officials from checking loads and impounding truck and action against corporation officials for minting money from them.

RETRIEVED: A city administration’s team retrieved 20 kanals worth Rs1 billion from illegal occupants.

The team demolished a three-storey building and a factory, according to a spokesman. Another team also launched an operation at Sabzazar scheme and got two persons arrested for offering resistance.

NOTICES: Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed issued notices on Saturday to the occupants of 24 petrol pump sites, directing them to vacate the state land as per the orders of the Supreme Court, as lease agreements for these pumps have already ended.
