ARD to meet in Karachi on 19th

LAHORE, Jan 11: Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) president Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan has convened a meeting of the alliance in Karachi on Jan 19.

The meeting would discuss the current political situation, besides the problems and challenges facing the country, the Nawabzada told Dawn on Friday.

The meeting would prepare a future line of action of the alliance as all the component parties of the ARD were being sent invitations, he said.

The steps to be announced by Gen Pervez Musharraf during his address to the nation on Saturday (Jan 12) are also likely to be on the agenda of the meeting.

The ARD president had resigned from his office after a major component of the alliance, the PPP, kept itself away from the all parties conference convened by him last month. However, the Nawabzada reviewed his decision when PPP senior vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Faheem and Punjab president Qasim Zia met him at his residence and explained the point of their party for staying away from the APC.

Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, who is also head of the steering committee of the APC, said that he would announce the composition of the steering committee within a day or two.
